UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is hiring a Coder II for its Coding Department.
This is a work-from-home position working Monday through Friday during business hours. The role focuses on inpatient coding, including ICD-10 diagnoses and PCS procedures. The coder will review medical records in the electronic health record, assign appropriate codes, ensure coding accuracy and completeness, and support accurate reimbursement and documentation quality.
The position also involves productivity tracking, participation in coding meetings, use of coding applications such as Optum, and collaboration with coding leadership and DRG specialists when needed.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years of hospital coding experience
- Completion of an AHIMA- or AACP-certified coding program, or equivalent training program
- Coursework in Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Medical Terminology, ICD-9/ICD-10, and CPT coding guidelines and procedures
- Inpatient coding requires pharmacology and pathophysiology coursework
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with PCS codes
- Eligible for RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
- Act 34 clearance
Core responsibilities
- Code inpatient diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and PCS
- Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with official coding guidelines
- Identify incomplete documentation and recommend physician queries when needed
- Maintain productivity standards and submit weekly productivity reports
- Use coding systems and abstract demographic/medical data as needed
