The Clinical Coder II performs specialized medical coding functions for CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding in accordance with billing protocols and compliance standards. This role reviews and analyzes diagnostic and procedural information to determine insurance payments and also handles related administrative and clerical duties as needed.
Responsibilities include coding and data entry in Epic, Cadence, and Resolute; accurately identifying diagnoses and procedures from source documents; posting charges daily with appropriate codes, modifiers, and documentation; reviewing records for completeness and compliance; and maintaining current knowledge of coding and compliance guidelines.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of professional medical coding experience, or equivalent combination of college coursework or vocational/technical training in place of experience.
One of the following certifications is required:
- CPC
- CCS-P
- COC
- CCP-P
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with Epic
- Knowledge of federal, state, and University of Florida UF Health fiscal requirements, policies, and procedures
- Strong knowledge of CPT coding for third-party billing
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently
