Coder III

ChristianaCare is seeking a full-time Coder III to perform accurate and timely coding, abstracting, and reimbursement support for inpatient, outpatient, emergency medicine, ancillary, and diagnostic records.

This position is 100% remote and open to national candidates. The team provides equipment, coding books, continuing education credits, and professional organization memberships to AHIMA or APC.

The role supports billing accuracy, data quality, severity of illness and risk of mortality reporting, and revenue cycle goals. The coder will also assist with special projects, system testing, report reconciliation, and aged coding accounts as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • CCS credential required
  • College degree in Health Information Management, completion of an AHIMA-approved certificate program, or one year of coding experience in an acute care setting coding inpatient, observation, emergency medicine, or same day surgery
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Technology preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, and CPT codes accurately and timely
  • Perform coding and abstracting for multiple patient types
  • Follow UHDDS definitions, CMS regulations, and official/internal coding guidelines
  • Review diagnostic reports, physician orders, and medical record documentation to support code assignment
  • Calculate MS-DRG, APR-DRG, and APC groupers as applicable
  • Submit daily productivity reports
  • Mentor newer coders and support training in new disciplines
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, seminars, and workshops
