Responsibilities
- Determine accurate CPT, HCPCS procedure, professional supply, and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for physician and non-physician provider billing.
- Perform physician practice management and coding activities to maintain compliance with payer reimbursement policies and federal healthcare program requirements.
- Provide training and education on coding and compliance issues to physicians, non-physician providers, and staff.
- Communicate with providers regarding billing and documentation policies, procedures, regulations, and coding/compliance questions.
- Perform audits and analyze payer denials; recommend improved documentation practices to help reduce future denials.
- Research provider and patient inquiries related to fees, reimbursements, and denials.
- Monitor data sources to ensure all charges are received and analyzed.
- Update encounter forms and superbills annually for diagnostic, procedural, and supply code changes.
- Complete other duties or special projects as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT certification, or specialty coding certification.
- 1-3 years of experience directly related to coding and reimbursement for physician services, or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding standards.
- Knowledge of third-party fee profiles and reimbursement requirements.
- Knowledge of current and emerging medical coding procedures and requirements.
- Strong analytical skills to gather, interpret, and apply data to solutions.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Preferred: Experience with Electronic Medical Records and IDX.
