Baptist Health is hiring a full-time Inpatient Hospital Coder for its Appeals & Denials Department at Baptist Metro Square.
This role is responsible for assigning diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient accounts, supporting accurate claim submission, working coding-related reports and denials, and collaborating with CDI, HIM, and management. The position is remote, with residence required in approved states.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnosis and procedure codes accurately for inpatient accounts
- Apply CPT coding and edit resolution for applicable observation accounts
- Verify and submit abstracted information to the billing system for claim submission
- Maintain daily productivity standards for discharged accounts
- Work ACHA, DNFB, post-bill error, rebill, claim edit, and denial reports
- Coordinate with management, CDI, and HIM regarding coding documentation
- Provide mentorship and support to other coders and staff
- Use a computerized encoder and EHR system effectively
Requirements & Qualifications
Required qualifications
- High school diploma
- One of the following AHIMA credentials:
- RHIT
- RHIA
- CCS
- 3–5 years of experience in an acute care setting
- 3–5 years of coding knowledge
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Proficiency with basic computer skills, computerized encoders, and EHR systems
