The Mid-Level Coder will support the MRRC Project Director and project team in meeting RADV (Risk Adjustment Data Validation) delivery requirements. This role performs the coding process from record intake to abstraction and appeals, ensuring coding accuracy and alignment with CMS guidelines and industry best practices in a production environment.
The position involves working with protected health information (PHI), reviewing medical record submissions, assigning ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM codes, and helping resolve coding discrepancies with team leads. The coder must maintain required credentials and continuing education, stay current on coding updates, and perform other duties as assigned.
As part of onboarding, an HHS-CMS background investigation is required to ensure compliance with security standards and regulations. Foreign nationals must meet residency requirements and have proper work authorization.
- 3 to 5 years of medical coding experience
- Previous CMS-RADV and/or MAO plans experience
- Current AAPC certification as CPC or CRC, or AHIMA certification as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
- Passing score on a NextStep-administered coder assessment
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathology of disease, and medical terminology
