Primary responsibilities include:
- Assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines
- Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Monitor assigned work queues to ensure records are charged and coded in a timely manner
- Generate coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed
- Stay current on coding conventions and coding updates
- Manage a significant workload and work efficiently under pressure while meeting deadlines
- Perform work with minimal supervision, including some tasks completed without established procedures
Requirements & Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Professional CPC coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC credentialing, maintained annually
- 5+ years of pro-fee coding experience in orthopedics and podiatry services
- Intermediate knowledge of Medicare guidelines and modifier application
- Intermediate experience in Epic and working with denials
- Must adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy
