Our Hematology-Oncology practice is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable full-time Medical Biller to join the growing Billing Team. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of hands-on experience, with Hematology/Oncology/Infusion billing experience strongly preferred.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing
- Reviewing Hematology/Oncology patient medical records and abstracting medical data to capture diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers using ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS classification systems
- Evaluating medical documentation and determining accurate E/M levels
- Ensuring CPT and ICD-10 codes align with diagnosis and treatment for reimbursement
- Capturing and coding professional services in compliance with federal regulations and insurance requirements
- Assessing encounter documentation using CMS standards and identifying documentation improvements when needed
- Following Medicare, state program, and HMO/PPO guidelines
- Entering coding information into CureMD electronic medical record systems
- Ensuring patient information is accurate and complete
- Identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurance
- Requesting missing patient information and reviewing referrals and authorizations
- Transferring insurance claims and billing data to billing software
- Creating paper and electronic copies of documentation
- Responding to patient and insurance company questions and complaints
- Updating accounts and keeping payment records current
- Maintaining patient confidentiality
- Obtaining referrals and pre-authorizations as required
- Checking eligibility and benefits for treatments and procedures
- Reviewing patient bills for accuracy and completeness
- Following up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle
- Contacting insurance companies regarding payment discrepancies
- Researching and appealing denied claims
- Answering patient and insurance phone inquiries for assigned accounts
- Staying current on billing and coding rules, including annual CPT-4 and ICD-10 updates
- Maintaining CEUs required for certification
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certification required: AAPC or AHIHMA certification such as CPB, CPC, or CHONC
- 1-2 years of hands-on medical billing experience in a medical office or healthcare setting
- Hematology/Oncology/Infusion billing experience strongly preferred
- 1-2 years of hands-on experience using medical billing software and electronic health record systems
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Self-motivated and able to work without supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
- Strong customer service skills and comfort speaking with patients and insurance companies
- Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions
- Bachelor's degree preferred
