Responsible for posting insurance and patient payments to accounts using internal systems, reconciling deposits, resolving payment discrepancies, and supporting the billing team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Posting electronic and manual payments from insurance carriers into internal systems
- Posting patient payments from the bank lock-box
- Reconciling insurance payments to bank deposits
- Applying contractual adjustments and transferring co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance to patient responsibility
- Reporting payment differences versus contracted rates based on the explanation of benefits
- Routing denials to insurance accounts receivable teams for re-submission and appeals
- Identifying and resolving insurance payment discrepancies
- Assisting with claim re-submission projects as needed
- Supporting billing department teammates and performing other assigned duties
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- Medical billing certification preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of medical payments posting experience
- Experience with major insurance carriers, including in-network and out-of-network services
- Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices
- Ability to understand and interpret explanation of benefits (EOBs)
- Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures
- Experience posting insurance, patient, EFT, ACH, check, and credit card payments
- HIPAA compliance and ability to maintain confidentiality of patient data and medical records
- Experience with EMR, EDI, and commercial insurance company systems
- Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Team-oriented with effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including advanced Excel
- Basic computer literacy and ability to use Outlook and Windows-based systems
- Bilingual skills helpful but not required
