Medical Biller / Certified Coder

Bayhealth Medical Center is seeking a Medical Biller/Certified Coder to support the full medical billing and coding workflow for the Kent Campus Hospital in Dover, Delaware. This role is responsible for preparing encounters for submission, abstracting clinical information from medical records, assigning appropriate diagnosis and CPT-4 codes, correcting denials and work queue items, and maintaining accounts receivable goals to support revenue cycle performance.

The position works closely with providers and support staff to ensure accurate documentation, coding, and reimbursement. The role also includes auditing, training support, participation in department meetings, and other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze records to identify and correct errors
  • Prepare encounters and code medical billing claims generated from the EMR
  • Submit claims accurately the first time
  • Determine appropriate encounter codes from patient records and manage coded data
  • Abstract information from medical records to support diagnosis coding and charge capture
  • Communicate with physicians and assistants to ensure documentation accuracy
  • Track patient data across multiple visits
  • Maintain communication with providers and provide auditing and training support as needed
  • Identify and verify documentation and coding inconsistencies
  • Report issues that impact reimbursement and revenue cycle performance
  • Maintain accounts receivable goals and daily A/R functions
  • Correct errors and denials from designated work queues
  • Participate in department meetings and training sessions or webinars
Requirements & Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a medical coding and billing program
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • 3 years of professional medical coding experience
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience with full medical coding functions
