Medical Billing Analyst

The Medical Billing Analyst is an intermediate billing role within the Hospital or Physicians Billing Offices for the Albany Med Health System. This position focuses on follow-up for accounts that have already been billed, re-billing when needed, working payer non-response issues, and responding to denials with immediate action and appeals support.

The role requires the ability to learn quickly, work independently, use payer websites to research policies and claim status, and communicate effectively with peers, trainers, leaders, and other internal departments. The position is expected to meet productivity standards after onboarding and training.

Primary responsibilities

  • Resolve complex billing edits that require deeper review and successful re-billing.
  • Follow up on no-response work queues through phone, email, and payer websites.
  • Respond to denials, including re-billing claims or submitting appeals with supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including Coding and Patient Access, to resolve edits and denials.
  • Identify payer trends impacting claim edits and denials and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Maintain detailed account notes and documentation of actions taken.
  • Navigate payer websites to locate policies, claim adjudication details, denial information, and remittance records.
  • Use Epic, OnBase, and related systems effectively.
  • Work independently under deadlines while meeting daily and weekly productivity and quality expectations.
  • Support revenue cycle efforts focused on aging accounts receivable and reimbursement accuracy.
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Prior office experience preferred.
  • Medical billing or claims knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with internal peers and leadership.
  • Ability to learn instructions quickly and work in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong prioritization and task execution skills.
  • Microsoft Office and website knowledge.
  • CCS, CIC, or COC certification upon hire preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.
