The patient account representative is responsible for accurate and timely collection of claims to third-party payers and patients, coding and entering charges, posting payments, arranging payment plans, providing cost estimates, and updating patient accounts.
This role requires timely responses to inquiries from both payers and patients and involves frequent interaction with patients, employees, physicians, and other members of the community.
Attendance is an essential function of the job.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- High school graduate required
- One year of billing experience in a health care setting preferred
- If prior experience is not available, applicants with business training will be considered
Experience
- Previous healthcare billing and follow-up experience preferred
- Minimum of one year of computer data entry experience required
- Ability to work under deadline pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively with all ages, especially the geriatric population
Physical Requirements
- Normal office environment
- Close eye work required; vision must be corrected to 20/20
- Hearing of normal and soft tones
- Sitting for 7–8 hours per day
- Must be able to stand, walk, and use fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls
- Requires hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
- May be exposed to airborne particles
- Must be able to view computer screens for long periods
- Occasional stress related to workload and customer issues
