Under the leadership of the Director of Patient Financial Services, the Patient Account Representative supports patient accounting operations by managing assigned accounts, ensuring billing accuracy, processing electronic claim submissions, and tracking payments. The role also helps resolve past-due accounts and processes daily deposits received.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain and control an assigned section of patient accounts.
- Review files for accuracy and completeness before claim submission.
- Verify and edit patient demographic and insurance information.
- Enter UB92 and/or physician billing 1500 information for electronic claims.
- Prepare and submit claims within required timeframes.
- Follow up on unpaid accounts with insurers, employers, and patients.
- Process correspondence related to benefits, unpaid claims, and balances.
- Support collections efforts, including letters, agency follow-up, and legal actions when needed.
- Reconcile daily receipts and assist with cash deposits.
- Prepare reports and maintain compliance with hospital policy and HIPAA requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma with an emphasis in Office Occupations or GED required.
- Associate degree in Accounting preferred.
- One to two years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field required.
- Healthcare accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred.
- Billing Specialist Certification or Patient Account Representative certification (CPAR) preferred.
