Medical Device Coder

FDB is seeking a Medical Device Coder in the Quality department to research FDA, manufacturer, CMS, and other credible sources in order to create and maintain unbiased medical device content, with an emphasis on HCPCS coding for medical devices.

This role is based out of the Carmel office and follows a hybrid schedule with an expectation to work onsite at least three days per week.

Responsibilities include researching and assigning HCPCS codes to medical device content, maintaining the HCPCS library, developing and maintaining HCPCS mapping tools, performing audits and validations, updating codes as CMS and category changes occur, supporting categorization staff, communicating with manufacturers when information is unclear, and ensuring coding accuracy and compliance with official coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.

The position also includes training staff members and using approved AI tools to support coding research, content validation, audit review, and workflow efficiency, while maintaining human oversight and compliance with privacy and security policies.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required skills

  • Ability to research devices, categories, and HCPCS codes to support development of a coding library
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding
  • Ability to use web-based and computer applications
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team settings
  • Initiative to take on additional tasks
  • Ability to use approved AI tools responsibly for coding research and validation
  • Ability to validate AI-generated outputs against credible sources and official guidance

Required experience and qualifications

  • Two years of coding experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience in supply chain management or the medical device industry preferred
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification
