Seeking a Lead Outpatient Coder to serve as the point of contact for coders, support managerial duties, and lead department projects.
The role focuses on outpatient and clinic coding, coding quality support, and collaboration with other departments on coding-related questions.
This position is remote, but only candidates residing in approved states will be considered for remote employment: Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
Requirements & Qualifications
Responsibilities
- Serve as a coding resource for clinic and outpatient coders.
- Ensure accuracy of clinical data collection from outpatient medical records.
- Code diseases, procedures, and diagnoses using ICD-10-CM and CPT in accordance with Official Coding Guidelines, CMS guidelines, and compliance standards.
- Complete complex coding assignments for reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Assist the manager with duties such as payroll, coder assignments, and annual reviews.
- Provide feedback to coders and support quality improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required experience
- 2 years of recent clinic and/or outpatient coding experience.
- Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, Coding Guidelines, Coding Clinic, APC reimbursement, and complex disease processes.
Required certifications
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P)
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) required upon hire
Preferred certifications
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Preferred day-one expertise
- Expert-level coding in one or more of the following areas: cardiology, interventional radiology, neuro-vascular, endovascular, general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, and wound care.
- Strong preference for experience in neurosurgery, interventional radiology, vascular surgery, endovascular surgery, and cardiology.
- Ability to lead coding questions and support a team of 7-9 people.
