The Imagine Group is recruiting for a Medical Coding Supervisor on behalf of a client, a leading not-for-profit healthcare network serving Western New York. The organization provides comprehensive medical services through hospitals, outpatient centers, and long-term care facilities across the region and is committed to advancing community health through innovation, education partnerships, and patient-centered care.
This role leads and manages the medical coding team, ensuring medical records are accurately, efficiently, and compliantly coded. The supervisor oversees team performance, ensures adherence to coding standards, trains staff, and collaborates with departments to resolve coding issues. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership and technical skills, a deep understanding of coding regulations, and a commitment to continuous improvement in coding practices.
Key responsibilities include supervising and providing leadership to the coding team; reviewing and auditing coded data for accuracy and compliance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS standards; training and mentoring staff; serving as a resource for coding questions and troubleshooting; monitoring team performance and conducting evaluations; collaborating with billing, compliance, and clinical teams; maintaining HIPAA compliance; reporting on coding accuracy and performance metrics; and helping develop policies and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or a related field preferred
- CPC or CCS certification required
- 3-5 years of experience in multi-specialty medical coding, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role
- Experience with coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines
- Experience in healthcare billing, reimbursement, and compliance preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to analyze and resolve coding discrepancies and challenges
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and medical coding software applications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Ability to sit for extended periods while performing coding tasks
- Occasional travel to other offices or locations for meetings or training may be required
