Medical Coding Auditor, Surgical Services

Integrative Emergency Services

Integrative Emergency Services, LLC (IES) is seeking a certified medical coding specialist with an emphasis on auditing surgical services. This role is responsible for accurate professional fee coding and documentation review for assigned surgical service lines.

The position evaluates medical records to ensure proper CPT, HCPCS Level II, and ICD-10-CM code assignment in accordance with payer guidelines and regulatory standards. It supports documentation integrity, identifies coding compliance risks such as undercoding, overcoding, and unbundling, and contributes to clean claim submission and optimal reimbursement through coding analysis, audits, and special projects.

Candidates may work in a hybrid setting or remotely. Remote employees must reside in a state where IES operates.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of professional medical coding experience
  • Strong surgical coding experience
  • Active coding certification through AAPC (such as CPC) or AHIMA (such as CCS-P)

Preferred:

  • CPMA certification through AAPC
  • Experience conducting internal coding audits
  • Experience with CMS Part B and commercial payer reimbursement methodologies

Knowledge and skills:

  • Strong knowledge of general surgery-related medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology
  • Strong understanding of CPT, HCPCS Level II, and ICD-10-CM coding
  • Knowledge of coding in surgical practices, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospital settings
  • Understanding of documentation review, medical necessity, and coding compliance
  • Familiarity with NCCI edits and bundling guidelines
  • Ability to audit reports, conduct focused reviews, and support special projects
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with EHR systems, practice management systems, claim scrubber tools, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
