Duke Health is seeking a certified Medical Records Coder II to support the Patient Revenue Management Organization. This role is part of a centralized revenue cycle team that supports scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions across the health system.
This position is 100% remote, with eligibility limited to employees who reside in approved states.
The coder will review complex medical records, assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes, ensure accurate DRG/APC assignment, and support optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges. The role also includes abstracting data from medical records, coordinating with other employees, and assisting with training and continuing education efforts.
High school diploma required.
Must hold one of the following active certifications:
- RHIA with no experience required
- RHIT with no experience required
- CCS with 1 year of coding experience required
- CPC or HCS-D with 2 years of coding experience required
Required knowledge and skills include:
- Advanced ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions
- Anatomy and physiology
- Medical terminology
- Extensive DRG/APC reimbursement knowledge
- Coding software familiarity
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Data entry/CRT proficiency
Additional responsibilities include reviewing complex records, auditing work quality, educating physicians on coding practices, and maintaining knowledge of medical record standards and regulations.

$10,000 sign-on bonus paid in 4 equal installments over 24 months.
