The Hospital Outpatient Coder Level II uses clinical coding knowledge, based on the Official Coding Guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic, to assign ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT codes to the highest level of accuracy for Ambulatory Surgery, Gastrointestinal, Infusion, and Observation encounters.
Works closely with physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialists, quality staff, and patient finance staff. Plays a key role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Follows up on CCI edits, claim rejections, and other issues affecting the billing and reimbursement process. Ensures accuracy of APCs and appropriate extraction of core data into the HIM abstracting system and data warehouse repository.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of acute care outpatient coding experience, including outpatient diagnostic and emergency department coding.
Preferred certifications: CIRCC, CPC, CPC-H, CCA, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P.
