To ensure accurate and appropriate gathering of information into coding classification systems to meet departmental, hospital, and outside agency requirements. This role supports appropriate reimbursement, compliance, and charging in alignment with coding guidelines and regulatory agencies.
The position is responsible for obtaining accurate and complete documentation in the medical record for correct coding assignment, severity of illness, and risk of mortality. It is part of the organization’s compliance efforts related to physician coding and billing, and works with physician and non-physician providers to support correct coding initiatives.
The role also analyzes and resolves missing charges and problem accounts by researching information related to department reimbursement.
This is an Anesthesia Coding role.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current HIM/Coding certification through one of the following:
- AHIMA
- AAPC
Two years of medical coding experience.
Preferred:
- Two years of physician office coding experience.
Skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to concentrate and maintain accuracy during interruptions
- Ability to prioritize duties and manage high-stress situations
- Independent decision-making ability
- Ability to adapt to changes and complete assigned tasks
- Meets quality and productivity standards
