BH Shared Services, a UHS company, is seeking an experienced Certified Coder to join the Central Appeals Office.

This role is responsible for high-quality, timely coding of diagnoses and procedures for inpatient and outpatient accounts, supporting multiple facilities under the CCO. The position requires accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, adherence to coding guidelines and UHS policies, and close communication with HIM staff regarding documentation needs and coding questions.

This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Abstract and enter ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis codes in MS4 using the 3M Encoder.
  • Follow established coding productivity expectations and corporate standards for ethical coding.
  • Compose and send physician queries when documentation is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear.
  • Log and follow up on queries daily until complete or past seven days.
  • Keep the Lead Coder or UHS Corporate Senior HIM Manager updated on coding issues or trends.
  • Upload coding and 3M coding summaries to the EMR as required.
  • Review coding logs daily, update and complete assigned items, and abstract records for missing documentation.
  • Email the facility HIM Director daily regarding uncoded accounts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of the medical record.
  • Stay current on coding trainings and credentials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CPC certification required
  • 1–3 years of related experience required
  • Graduation from a certified coding program required
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as MS4 and 3M
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of behavioral health coding and medical terminology
