The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for billing third-party payers through a claims processing vendor and handling appeals for denied professional and hospital claims. The role identifies billing issues affecting hospital and physician accounts, performs follow-up activities, and works to ensure timely and appropriate reimbursement and account resolution.
Work schedule is on-site, Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM, in Galveston, Texas.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Two years of financial experience or one year of patient accounts experience.
- 1-3+ years of experience in healthcare billing, revenue cycle, or medical collections preferred.
- Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and major commercial insurance claim filing guidelines.
- Experience using payer portals to verify claim status, access provider manuals, and review reimbursement methodologies.
Skills and Knowledge
- Basic understanding of CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS, modifier coding, and place of service requirements.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations regarding payer billing guidelines.
- Experience with Epic Resolute preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize work accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to train and mentor new employees is a plus.
