The Billing Specialist / Medical Coder serves as a liaison to outside clinic billing departments and assists with internal billing needs. This role is responsible for insurance follow-up, accounts receivable management, charge review, claims mailing, documentation attachment, and other duties needed to ensure charges are submitted accurately and on time. Experience in DME or podiatry is a plus.
Key responsibilities include maintaining claim timeliness, supporting collection goals, working denials, managing multiple software systems, tracking and reporting billing activity, communicating with clinics and management, and helping with administrative assignments and projects as needed. The role also supports compliance, coverage criteria, ICD-10 updates, and coordination with clinic billing departments.
- Minimum 2 years of medical billing experience
- Certified Medical Coder preferred
- Working knowledge of medical insurance carriers and Medicare
- Ability to work quickly, accurately, and with strong attention to detail
- Strong telephone etiquette and communication skills
- Ability to build effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Word
- DME or podiatry billing experience is a plus
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
