Laboratory Applications and Billing Specialist

Helps monitor and maintain laboratory databases and laboratory information systems while supporting accurate and timely laboratory send-out billing. The role also assists with charge entry, billing edits, coding questions, lab support inquiries, and coordination with Central Billing, Coding Quality, IT, and laboratory teams. This position supports compliance, confidentiality, and the mission of Austin Regional Clinic.

Essential Duties

• Maintain lab system databases and support Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) functions
• Process lab support inquiries, troubleshooting calls, and messages
• Develop and test rules in laboratory test environments
• Validate codemap files used to determine medical necessity for lab tests
• Maintain routing and billing rules in COPIA
• Audit laboratory send-out bills for accuracy and completeness
• Authorize bill payments to Accounting
• Answer coding questions for lab personnel, business office staff, physicians, and nurses
• Research clinical utility and cost of esoteric tests
• Assist with patient billing questions
• Update test code information and support charge entry
• Help reduce laboratory send-out costs through EOB review and process improvements
• Support billing edits, clinic work queues, training, interface issues, and special projects
• Travel as needed for lab hardware assessments and testing
