DRCG is seeking a highly motivated Medical Coder to support a federal client. This role performs remote coding using ICD, CPT, HCPCS Level II, and related guidelines to review health record documentation and assign diagnostic and procedural codes.
The position includes coding outpatient encounters such as radiology, lab, and other ancillary services, along with required encoder/EHR data elements in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) handbooks. Additional cases may include Veteran Tortfeasor Claims, Veteran Workers' Compensation, Humanitarians, TRICARE beneficiaries, CHAMPVA, ineligibles, fugitive felons, prosthetics, non-VA fee services, and new insurance/late checkout cases.
The coder will also perform remote coding for inpatient and outpatient visits and surgical procedures for VA Health Care System facilities, using VA VistA/CPRS and approved encoder systems. The role requires compliance with HIPAA and all applicable performance work statement requirements.
• Minimum of 2 years of outpatient coding experience • Accredited coding certification or health information management/health information technician training • AHIMA credentials such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P, or AAPC credentials such as CPC or CPC-H • Formal training in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology, pharmacology, health record content, reimbursement methodologies, and coding guidelines • Experience with E/M guidelines, including 1995, 1997, 2021, and 2023 documentation guidelines • Knowledge of VA, CPT, CMS, and CCI bundling standards • Ability to apply ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding accurately • Ability to maintain a 95% accuracy rate on audits • Ability to complete assignments within 5 calendar days • Familiarity with VHA encoder systems, EHR workflows, and outpatient/inpatient coding processes • Ability to comply with VA privacy and security requirements and annual training • Clearance required: Tier Level 1
