Orthopedic sports medicine physician practice seeking a highly motivated Certified Medical Biller and Coder to join the team.
Responsible for both medical coding and medical billing functions in a fast-paced orthopedic/surgical practice, including coding audits, claim follow-up, payment posting, denial resolution, and patient billing support.

Requirements & Qualifications
Coding responsibilities
- Extract relevant information from patient records and act as a liaison with providers and other parties to clarify information
- Review documents for missing information and correct information as needed
- Assign CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes
- Perform patient chart audits and provide coding feedback and education to the clinical team as needed
- Answer questions, advise, and train providers and staff on medical coding
- Ensure compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines
- Maintain current knowledge of coding and diagnostic procedures
- Participate in compliance activities, provider coding reviews, and education as requested
Billing responsibilities
- Maintain the practice management system by entering accurate data and verifying/updating insurance and claims information
- Key, collect, post, and manage patient account payments
- Investigate rejected claims and correct denials
- Complete Claims Center daily tasks including charge review and claims inspector work
- Create and maintain custom claim edits and work the client action worklist
- Review weekly and monthly RCM reports including productivity and financial reports
- Follow HIPAA guidelines when accessing and sharing patient information
- Maintain patient and business confidentiality
- Provide timely and professional customer service to patients, facility staff, and third-party vendors
- Support additional coding, billing, and practice management projects as needed
- Regular attendance required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience with electronic scheduling systems and electronic medical records (EMR) required
- Minimum of 1+ year of experience as a medical biller/coder in surgical or orthopedics settings
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred
- Strong leadership and effective communication skills
- Excellent planning, organization, and management skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work well with a team
- Dependable transportation required
- Travel between locations may be required
