This role is responsible for reviewing and submitting approximately 64 encounters per day, or 8 per hour, related to evaluation and management, procedures, testing, monitoring, and hospital services. The position focuses on cardiology coding, including non-invasive procedures, remote and pacer monitoring, cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiology billing.
The coder will also assist with work queue evaluation, pending encounter updates, workflow support, and coding projects as needed. Regular communication with clinic staff and collaboration with leadership are expected to ensure compliant, accurate coding and efficient operations.
- 3–5+ years of professional coding experience in cardiology
- Active AAPC COC or CPC, or active AHIMA CCS at time of hire
- Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, modifiers, and NCCI edits
- Experience with charge extraction and review of diagnosis and procedure codes for accuracy
- Ability to discuss coding guidelines with providers in a professional, collaborative manner
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet productivity and accuracy standards
- Familiarity with EPIC, Cerner, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience working denials and collaborating with accounts receivable teams
- Proficiency with teaching facility guidelines
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Recent experience in an active coding production environment preferred
