University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is seeking a highly motivated Coding Quality Assurance Specialist to join its Coding Services team.
This role supports and leads quality assurance for coding staff through regular audits of CPT/ICD-10 and related code selection. The position also contributes to coding analysis, coder feedback, education, trending, and process improvement.
This position can be performed 100% remotely, and out-of-state candidates will be considered.
Essential Duties
- Serve as a coding expert for assigned specialties.
- Maintain audit records for reference and trending.
- Audit new and existing coders in accordance with Coding Services standards.
- Monitor coding quality and identify education opportunities.
- Partner with leadership and the Coding Education Specialist to prepare and present education based on audit results and trends.
- Research coder questions and provide accurate guidance and supporting documentation.
- Research correct coding for new CPT codes and present updates to the team.
- Identify provider education opportunities and coordinate with ACE when needed.
- Perform edit analysis to identify educational opportunities and edit modifications.
- Support workflow optimization and ongoing training needs.
- Identify trends and work with management to improve revenue cycle performance.
Requirements & Qualifications
Requirements
- CPC or AHIMA coding certification required
- CPMA preferred
- Strong skills in E/M leveling
- Basic knowledge of reporting and analytics
- 2-4 years of experience in a dedicated auditing position
- Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding standards
- Experience navigating EMR systems and auditing software
