Job Summary
The Corporate Coder functions under the direction of the Health Information Corporate Coding Manager and is responsible for accurate coding and abstracting of clinical information from the medical record. This role supports coding data quality, integrity, productivity standards, chart reviews, and training efforts as needed.
Responsibilities
- Accurately and productively code and abstract patient health documentation for Tenet facilities.
- Review flagged cases in CARDS and RevInt for coding accuracy.
- Assist with coding quality reviews, audits, and second-level reviews.
- Support training for new corporate coders and other assigned projects.
- Maintain coding credentials and participate in coding education.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Health Information Management or a related discipline.
- Completion of an AHIMA-certified program preferred, with credentials such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS.
- 1-3 years of inpatient coding experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong technical background and electronic medical record experience.
- Preferred: bachelor's degree or higher in Health Information Management.
- Preferred: 3+ years of inpatient coding experience in a large, complex health system.
- Must complete a pre-employment coding proficiency assessment.
