At Northwestern Medicine, the Outpatient Coder II role supports accurate outpatient diagnosis and procedure coding with a focus on reimbursement integrity and documentation quality. This position handles complex outpatient encounters such as observation stays, same-day surgery, surgery center, and outpatient-in-a-bed cases.
The role requires strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, chargemaster concepts, and coding compliance standards. The coder will review medical records, resolve NCCI edits, support physician query processes, and contribute to coding accuracy, productivity, and software/system improvement efforts.
Required
- 3–4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting
- RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credential
- AHIMA credentialing with continuing education requirements maintained
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- 4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting
