Trauma Registrar

The Trauma Registrar is an integral member of the Trauma Program and its performance improvement initiatives. Under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager, this role is responsible for abstraction, collection, coding, entry, and report generation for Trauma Registry data required by the State of Michigan, the National Trauma Data Bank, and the American College of Surgeons.

The position also supports Trauma Quality Improvement Process (TQIP) and MTQIP data abstraction and entry, maintains patient confidentiality, and may be assigned additional duties or coverage responsibilities as needed. Travel may be required based on leadership direction.

Key responsibilities

• Perform concurrent and accurate data collection and entry into the Trauma Registry for all required data elements.
• Analyze patient data to code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and AIS guidelines.
• Ensure trauma patient data is entered within required regulatory timeframes.
• Resolve routine coding issues and escalate as needed.
• Support injury prevention, outreach, and performance improvement activities.
• Generate reports and provide data for PIPS committee meetings and leadership requests.
• Submit registry data to required state and national reporting organizations.
• Maintain compliance with hospital, state, and federal privacy and reporting standards.
