In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Physician Coding Specialist II assigns appropriate surgical, office procedural, and diagnostic CPT, E/M, surgical, and ICD codes to patient health information for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing for Mount Carmel Medical Group.
This role uses advanced specialty coding knowledge, including surgical procedures, and abstracts pertinent data while resolving edits within required time frames.
Specialty focus: Cardiology / OBGYN
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Coding certification required: CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT.
- Physician services coding certification (CPC or CCS-P) preferred.
- Formal training in CPT and ICD coding or prior experience using CPT and ICD coding principles required.
- Minimum 1 year of physician office coding experience required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and assimilate information from multiple sources.
- Knowledge of procedure and diagnostic coding for professional services and payer regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid.
- Knowledge of Evaluation and Management documentation guidelines and other professional documentation requirements.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional, service-oriented environment.
