The Credentialed Inpatient Coder accurately codes and abstracts medical information for billing and statistical purposes and enters the information into a computerized database. Working independently under general supervision, this role ensures timely coding and completion of patient accounts to meet established department standards and goals.
Essential duties
- Maintain timely coding and completion of patient accounts to meet established department and regulatory standards and goals.
- Maintain accuracy in accordance with department and regulatory standards.
- Monitor uncoded accounts and perform workflow processes to ensure optimal revenue cycle performance.
- Interact with clinical staff and providers to improve documentation so it accurately reflects severity of illness and supports medical necessity and claims submission.
- Complete all mandated education prior to deadline.
- Collaborate with other team members to support continuing education in the coding profession and ensure optimal performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- 3 years
Licensure / certification
- AHIMA: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P
- AAPC: CPC, COC, or CIC
