The Credentialed Inpatient Coder accurately codes and abstracts medical information for billing and statistical purposes and enters the information into a computerized database. Working independently under general supervision, this role ensures timely coding and completion of patient accounts to meet established department standards and goals.

Essential duties

Maintain timely coding and completion of patient accounts to meet established department and regulatory standards and goals.
Maintain accuracy in accordance with department and regulatory standards.
Monitor uncoded accounts and perform workflow processes to ensure optimal revenue cycle performance.
Interact with clinical staff and providers to improve documentation so it accurately reflects severity of illness and supports medical necessity and claims submission.
Complete all mandated education prior to deadline.
Collaborate with other team members to support continuing education in the coding profession and ensure optimal performance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
