Working at Moffitt Cancer Center supports a mission to prevent and cure cancer. This role supports the Cancer Registry rapid abstraction team by researching, gathering, coding, and validating first course treatment information for cancer patients.
The specialist will maintain compliance with state, national, and internal registry standards, monitor treatment concordance, and help ensure case completeness and accuracy across cancer registry workflows. The position is remote-friendly, with preference for occasional onsite presence 4–6 times per year.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred
- Coursework or equivalent experience in medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, oncology, and information technology preferred
- 2 years of experience in data entry and data management using electronic health records
- Experience with Microsoft Suite / Microsoft 365 and database programs
- Ability to interpret medical records including pathology, radiology, H&P, operative/discharge reports, ambulatory care notes, phone notes, chemotherapy orders/flowsheets, and radiation information
- Knowledge of confidentiality and patient privacy requirements
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and healthcare professionals
- Self-starter able to work with little supervision
