Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a Senior HIM Operations Data Specialist to research, review, process, amend, and correct requests impacting patient health records. This role resolves accounts placed on hold due to clinical documentation deficiencies, supports the Health Information Management team, and helps ensure the integrity of patient medical records.
The position researches and resolves provider queries and missing documentation, updates coding systems with accurate responses, processes inquiries and requests related to patient medical record data, and maintains provider names and credentials in applicable systems. It also serves as a liaison between clinical staff and HIM to improve coding and billing accuracy.
In addition, this role trains and onboards HIM Operations Data Specialists, communicates trends to leadership, reviews existing processes, and helps implement revisions based on changes in clinical data flows. The position also provides backup support, assists with complaint follow-up, and handles escalation points.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- High school/GED plus 8 years of healthcare experience in reviewing, researching, running, and producing reports from patient medical records, coding systems, and databases.
- Associate degree plus 6 years of the same experience, or bachelor's degree plus 4 years of the same experience.
- Strong medical terminology knowledge.
- Clear understanding of revenue cycle applications, including electronic health records.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, statistical, project management, and presentation software, preferably Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word).
- Ability to execute strategy, communicate business process knowledge, and use enabling technologies to produce results.
- Ability to manage schedule and responsibilities independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred: prior experience training new team members on policy and procedures and experience in Health Information Management.
