Seeking a full-time HIM Technician to support the Health Information Management department at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska. This day-shift role is responsible for supporting patient health record accuracy, integrity, accessibility, and compliance.
The position plays a key part in chart deficiency management, unbilled account processing, mandated registry reporting, and EHR maintenance. The HIM Technician also assists providers with medical record deficiencies, supports suspension workflows, and maintains delinquency statistics in accordance with state regulations, hospital policies, HIM procedures, and Joint Commission standards.
Essential Functions
- Manage chart deficiency workflows by notifying and assisting providers with incomplete medical records, monitoring deficiencies, and ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Process unbilled accounts to support timely coding, reimbursement, and revenue cycle operations.
- Maintain and file health records accurately within the electronic health record system in a timely and organized manner.
- Oversee the suspension process for delinquent records in compliance with hospital medical staff rules, HIM policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and maintain delinquency statistics, generate reports, and escalate concerns to HIM leadership as needed.
- Perform mandated registry reporting, including tumor registry and EMPI reconciliation.
- Process and maintain medical records across multiple health information systems while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and security.
- Assist HIM leadership with operational reports, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, Joint Commission, and facility policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 0-1 years of experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare clerical support required.
- Experience with document scanning, indexing, or electronic medical records systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of medical record workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of chart deficiency processes, provider suspension workflows, and unbilled management procedures.
- Proficiency in EHR systems, document management, and health information technology platforms.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with providers, HIM leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to analyze, generate, and interpret HIM reports.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.
