The Remote Inpatient Coder is responsible for assigning diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, monitoring bill hold reports, and supporting accurate MSDRG assignments. This role serves as a liaison to Clinical Documentation Specialists for inpatient encounters and communicates with the Workforce Manager as needed. Additional duties may be assigned. The position requires strong familiarity with 3M Encoder and EPIC, along with extensive inpatient coding experience and a focus on accuracy and productivity.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4+ years of recent acute care hospital inpatient coding and abstracting experience
- Recent Level I or II trauma experience
- Extensive knowledge of 3M 360 and EPIC software
- CCS credential required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience writing queries
- Technically savvy
- Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology
- Preferred: 5 years of academic acute care inpatient coding experience
