The Health Information Specialist performs medical record services and manages patient information by analyzing patient data denial remits and determining what the payor requires to adjudicate claims. This on-site role reviews denials, identifies remit issues in work queues, and helps ensure records are processed and sent according to payer requirements and timeframes.
Key duties include reviewing insurance remits, determining what medical records are needed, deciding how records should be processed and transmitted, communicating with insurance companies and payors, and escalating delays or new issues to management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
- Or an associate's degree plus 2 years of medical or legal experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
- RHIA or RHIT preferred
