Advanced-level Health Information Management role responsible for timely and accurate management of confidential health information.
Key responsibilities include:
- Answering inbound department calls and providing courteous customer service
- Processing release of information requests received by mail, fax, phone, or in person
- Verifying patient identity and authorization validity before releasing protected health information
- Retrieving, tracking, and delivering medical records from active, inactive, and interdepartmental locations
- Reviewing electronic medical records for completeness and accuracy
- Identifying deficiencies and supporting providers with questions
- Assisting with scanning, indexing, and prep of medical record documentation
- Supporting medical record department quality processes and continuous improvement
- Recommending process improvements and covering other HIM functions as needed
- Maintaining confidentiality and supporting compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree in Health Record Technology (RHIT), or
- 2 years of equivalent work experience in a related field may be substituted with a high school diploma or GED
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of hospital or medical office experience with a Health Information Management focus
- Preferred: 3 years of experience
Preferred credentials
- RHIT
- RHIA
- Release of Information credential
- Patient Identification & Matching micro-credential
- AHIMA continuing education credits if certified
Additional knowledge
- Knowledge of Oregon retention laws and record destruction requirements
