Health Information Services (HIS) manages patient medical records and releases health information for treatment, payment, and review. As a Clinical Documentation Specialist, you will help improve the quality and accuracy of medical record documentation, support compliance with CMS guidelines, and help expedite reimbursement.
This role uses both clinical and coding knowledge to obtain and clarify documentation through close collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, patient caregivers, Case Management, and Health Information Management teams. You will also ensure the clinical information used to measure and report outcomes is complete and accurate, and help educate the patient care team on documentation standards.
- Current Hawaiʻi Registered Nurse license
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Five years of clinical experience in an acute care setting, including inpatient bedside nursing
- Preferred: Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) certification
- Preferred: Experience with InterQual, Milliman, or other nationally recognized Utilization Management criteria
- Preferred: Experience with DRGs or inpatient ICD-10-CM/PCS coding
