Area Health Information Specialist II

This role supports the processing of medical record requests in a high-volume production environment at a single onsite location in Ocala, FL.

Position highlights

  • Full-time schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM EST
  • Onsite role at one location in Ocala, FL 34471
  • High-volume production environment
  • Handles medical record requests from patients, insurance companies, and attorneys
  • Uses multiple platforms and two computer monitors for documentation

What you will do

  • Receive and process requests for patient health information according to company and facility policies
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information
  • Use company and facility software effectively
  • Follow company and customer facility codes of conduct and policies
  • Communicate work issues, site difficulties, and volume changes to management
  • Assist with additional duties as needed
  • Apply medical privacy regulations consistently to prevent unauthorized disclosure
  • Manage patient health records and ensure HIPAA compliance
  • Prepare new patient charts from paper and/or electronic sources
  • Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and filed in standard order
  • Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical record storage
  • Respond to internal and external records requests and transmit records appropriately
  • Answer inbound and outbound calls
  • Assist with patient walk-ins, fax handling, mail opening, data entry, and pick-up scheduling
  • Help train associates in the HIS I position
  • Generate reports for managers or facility leadership
  • Meet or exceed productivity expectations
  • Participate in project teams and committees
  • Serve in a lead role for general questions and new hire development training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 1 year of health information-related experience
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong attention to detail and quality for medical records accuracy and compliance
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Able to respond in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to travel locally/regionally 75% or more of the time
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed
  • Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
