The Long Beach VA Medical Center is recruiting for one Medical Records Technician (Coder In/Out) to work in HIMS Services at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center.
This is a 100% remote position, with the requirement that the selected candidate must live within 50 miles of a VA Medical Center.
The role is based in the Health Information Management (HIM) section and supports coding, documentation review, quality improvement, audits, data retrieval, and health information management functions.
Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship required.
- One year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07).
- Must hold one of the following certifications:
- AHIMA or AAPC Apprentice/Associate Level Certification
- AHIMA or AAPC Mastery Level Certification
- AHIMA or ACDIS Clinical Documentation Improvement Certification
- Ability to analyze health records to identify diagnoses and procedures for coding and assess documentation adequacy.
- Ability to perform full-scope outpatient and inpatient coding, including ambulatory surgical cases, diagnostic studies, procedures, and encounters.
- Skill in interpreting and adapting health information guidelines and using judgment when guidance is incomplete.
