Remote Medical Coder (CPC)

Position Summary

The remote Revenue Cycle Coder plays a key role on the revenue cycle team, supporting accurate coding and efficient reimbursement for physician-managed healthcare services. This position impacts the organization’s ability to maintain funding for services provided and support excellent patient care.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and audit medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures and assign correct ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS codes in accordance with government and insurance regulations.
  • Use coding software and coding reference materials appropriately.
  • Follow up with providers when documentation is insufficient, missing, or unclear.
  • Assist providers with coding and documentation guideline questions and provide feedback to leadership on documentation trends and education opportunities.
  • Stay current on carrier policies and guidelines, including Medicare, NCCI, and payer-specific requirements.
  • Review and resolve suspended charges related to claim edits or payer rejections.
  • Review, correct, and appeal coding-related denials and share trends with leadership and team members.
  • Correct and/or appeal denied claims due to coding errors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
  • Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC must be maintained annually.
  • Minimum of 3 years of coding and/or medical billing experience.
  • Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines.
  • Orthopedic coding experience strongly preferred, especially in high-volume orthopedic and surgical clinic settings.
  • Experience navigating EHR systems to abstract documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of physiology, medical terminology, and anatomy.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently as a self-motivated team player.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Adobe.
