Medical Coder

Responsibilities

• Daily coding of patient visits
• Daily interaction with patients/customers by phone to answer questions or receive payments
• Assist team members with billing and insurance questions
• Weekly billing of patient visits through an employee rotation pattern
• Daily phone interaction with insurance companies to resolve payment issues
• File electronic insurance claims and appeals
• Respond to denied claims

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills by phone or in person
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, and workers' compensation billing guidelines
• Knowledge of electronic medical records
• Previous experience with claims, payment posting, denials and appeals, and coding
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Coding certificate preferred
• At least 2 years of coding experience required
