Abstracts information from the medical record to support patient databases used for medical research, patient care evaluation, and administrative decision-making.
Supports accurate reimbursement, provider/patient continuity, and compliant coding practices aligned with established coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, regulations, and accreditation standards.

High school diploma or GED required.
- Additional specialty coding certification required, or five years of coding experience
- One to two years of college or additional coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration, or Medical Record Sciences preferred
- Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems
- Minimum of two years coding experience required
- Specialty coding experience preferred
- RHIT, CPC, or CCS certification required
