Inpatient Coder

UCHealth

Assigns medical diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10 and PCS for inpatient accounts.

Reviews accounts after admission and throughout the stay, updating codes as documentation is added.

Collaborates with physicians, CDI, Quality, Compliance, and department committees to ensure accurate, complete coding and capture quality measures.

Uses critical thinking and decisive judgment while working with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Coding-related certification from AHIMA or AAPC.

Preferred: CCS certification.

Accepted credentials include:

  • Certified Coding Specialist
  • Certified Professional Coder
  • Registered Health Information Technician
  • Certified Hospital Outpatient Coder
  • Registered Health Information Administrator
  • Certified Professional Coder Apprentice
  • Certified Medical Coder
  • Certified Coding Associate

1 year of inpatient coding experience or 3 years of outpatient coding experience.
