The Hospital Outpatient Coder reviews, analyzes, and assigns diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. This role supports provider/patient continuity, accurate database information, and reimbursement optimization while maintaining compliance with coding guidelines, federal regulations, and accreditation standards.

- Experience coding oncology-related services is preferred
- High school diploma or GED required
- Two years of healthcare outpatient coding experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS required
- One of the following certifications is required: CCS, CPC, CPMA, COC, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA
- Certification from AHIMA or AAPC may satisfy the requirement if reviewed and approved
- Experience coding hospital electronic medical records
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Cerner EHR, OPTUM Enterprise Computer Assisted Coding, 3M encoder, or Soarian financial billing system
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, and Outlook
- Knowledge of AHA Coding Clinic guidelines, ICD-10-CM, CPT, CMS guidelines, AHIMA ethics, and AAPC ethics
