We are seeking a skilled and dependable Billing & Coding Specialist with experience across multiple specialties. This role supports high-volume billing, accurate coding, and smooth reimbursement workflows for urgent care, orthopedic, and outpatient surgery services.
Key responsibilities
- Accurately code and submit claims for urgent care, orthopedic, and surgery center encounters using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS.
- Process claims for commercial insurance, Medicare, and workers’ compensation.
- Review and correct coding or documentation issues prior to claim submission.
- Monitor claims through the full revenue cycle, including submission, payment posting, follow-up, and appeals.
- Handle claim denials, rejections, and underpayments with thorough follow-up.
- Communicate professionally with insurance carriers, adjusters, and attorney offices for personal injury cases.
- Prepare billing statements, liens, and medical records requests related to personal injury cases.
- Maintain internal tracking logs for claims, denials, and follow-up actions.
- Work closely with clinic staff to obtain missing documentation or clarify coding questions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific billing guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- 2–3+ years of medical billing/coding experience; urgent care, orthopedics, and/or ambulatory surgery center experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, modifiers, and insurance billing requirements.
- Experience with personal injury billing, attorney offices, and lien-based cases.
- Familiarity with workers’ compensation billing and authorization workflows.
- Ability to manage denials, appeals, and insurance communication confidently.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems and clearinghouse portals.
Preferred
- Certification such as CPC, CCA, CCS, or equivalent.
- Experience billing orthopedic surgeries, injections, PRP, and ancillary procedures.
- Knowledge of surgery center billing and global periods.
