This role supports outpatient coding work with an emphasis on complex oncology claims, and may also include other specialty outpatient areas such as interventional radiology, pain management, and cardiology. The position is responsible for accurate diagnosis and procedure coding, claim edit queue management, and collaboration with clinical and audit teams to improve coding quality and revenue cycle performance.
Key responsibilities include assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, ensuring proper sequencing, applying modifiers, maintaining coding work queues, querying providers when documentation is incomplete, participating in audits, and working within Epic coding workflows and 3M Encoder.
One or more years of hospital coding experience, preferably in oncology
Experience with Epic coding workflows preferred
Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines
Understanding of modifier assignment and payer/billing requirements
Two-year degree in Health Information Management or a related field
AHIMA or AAPC coding certification required
Oncology service credentials preferred
Proficiency with computer applications such as 3M Encoder and Microsoft Teams
Ability to perform sedentary work for extended periods
