The Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing and coding patient records in accordance with standardized medical coding systems to ensure accuracy and compliance of medical documentation.
This role supports efficient billing, reimbursement, and compliance processes by maintaining correct diagnostic and procedural coding, verifying patient information in the EHR, and collaborating with providers and billing teams to resolve documentation issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred
- Medical coding certification required, such as CPC, CCS, or CCA
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in medical coding
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, procedures, and coding systems including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS
- Familiarity with EHR systems, coding software, Microsoft Office, and HIPAA regulations
- Strong attention to detail, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently
